Cultured Red Blood Cells
Production
EryPharm offers unique technology and expertise in intensive, low-cost cell culture, which can potentially be extrapolated.
Step 1
Stem cells are collected from voluntary donors.
Step 2
The stem cells are then frozen in nitrogen vapor, and stored in a cell bank before “entering production”.
Step 3
The production phase is divided into 4 phases:
- thawing of cells
- cell culture over a 21-day perio
- purification of red blood cells
- filling of packed red blood cell concentrates into transfusion bags
Step 4
Quality control is carried out according to health authority requirements in each country.
Step 5
The cRBC bags are then placed in storage.
Step 6
The bags are then ultimately administered to patients who need transfusions
Industrial scale-up of the RBC production process will open up a new industrial sector, with the creation of skilled jobs.
